GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State University head women’s basketball coach Freddie Murrayannounced the 2022-23 women’s basketball schedule, which features four Power 5 opponents and a trip to Hawaii.
“We’re looking forward to a challenging non-conference schedule we have put together for the 2022-2023 season,” Murray said. “As always, we like for our non-conference schedule to be challenging in order to prepare us for league play.”
Last season, the Lady Tigers finished 14-17 overall and 10-8 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play. GSU made it the SWAC Tournament semifinals, falling to Alabama State.
GSU opens the season in the Big Easy, taking on Tulane on Nov. 7. The Lady Tigers then head to the desert with road games at Arizona State (Nov. 11) and Grand Canyon (Nov. 13).
On Nov. 18, Grambling State returns to the friendly confines of the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center for a date with New Orleans. GSU then gears up for nine straight road games.
The Lady Tigers head to the West Coast to take on San Diego State on Nov. 22, then travel to Honolulu, Oahu for the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, hosted by the University of Hawaii. The Lady Tigers play Hawaii (Nov. 25), nationally-ranked Stanford (Nov. 26) and Florida Gulf Coast (Nov. 27).
GSU opens December in Starkville, Miss. with a game versus Mississippi State on Dec. 4. On Dec. 15, The Lady Tigers face Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. and wrap up non-conference play on Dec. 18 at Texas Christian (TCU).
Grambling State begins conference play in the Lone Star State with contests against Prairie View A&M (Jan. 2) and Texas Southern (Jan. 4).
On Jan. 7 and Jan. 9, GSU comes back home to square off with Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M, before heading back on the road for a three-game swing at Southern (Jan. 14), Mississippi Valley State (Jan. 21) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan. 23).
The defending SWAC champions, Jackson State, come to town on Jan. 28. GSU also hosts Alcorn State on Jan. 30.
The Lady Tigers begin the month of February at Alabama State (Feb. 4) and Alabama A&M (Feb. 6). GSU begins a three-game home stand versus TSU on Feb. 11. Grambling State faces PVAMU on Feb. 13and rival Southern on Feb. 18.
GSU closes out February with games at FAMU (Feb. 25) and BCU (Feb. 27).
The Lady Tigers complete the regular season at home versus AAMU on March 2 and ASU on March 4.
The 2022 SWAC Basketball Tournament will be held March 8-11 in Birmingham, Ala.
Season tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale on October 12 and fans are enco
